In regards the the rest of the painting, there is an abundance of objects on the left, leading the viewer’s eye to that area. It seems that the few objects on the right of the painting are unimportant. This painting embodies the four main characteristics of Baroque paintings: the use of diagonals, suspense, tenebrism, and snapshot quality. Diagonals play a major role in â€Å"The Geographer†. In fact, almost every line is at an angle to imply perspective. This gives the painting depth. Everything is on a diagonal, to the point where it almost looks as if the picture is slanted to one side. Other details to note are the compass in his hand moving at the same angle as his arm, creating movement in the direction of his other hand, creating a circle. Most of the movement of the piece leans to the left. Even the shadows seem to be at a diagonal. It seems as if the man in the painting is looking out the window at something. It looks as if he is disturbed, or shocked, with what he sees. Perhaps he was interrupted from his work to witness something awful. This is the most exciting moment. The viewer can imagine what he is looking at, none of the possibilities pleasant. This is how the painting is suspenseful. One can only imagine what happened before, or what will happen after, this picture was painted, but one can be sure that this moment is the beginning of something exciting. Tenebrism is defined as a style of painting that uses violent contrasts of light and dark. In â€Å"The Geographer†, this is apparent. The strongest light source in the picture is on the left, adding even more emphasis to this side of the painting. The man’s face is lit quite well, the viewer must be able to see his face for the viewer to understand his anguish. What he is working on is also well-lit. Answer: Introduction The aim of the report is to present the human resource management after some organisational changes. The case study company is Top Trucking Company, which is a transport company. A new company bought the company and new manager was appointed. The manger has brought some changes in organisational culture. Therefore, the employees have to adopt the new cultures. The report evaluates new practices in this company and how the employees, union representatives and manager, manage it. Organisational changes have some risks, which are discussed here. Involvement of the transport workers union in the organisation after the changes and their attitude are evaluated in this respect. Discussion Evaluation of new workplace practices The old manager of the yard of Top trucking company was autocratic in nature. He used to impose his idea upon the employees. The manger had individual control over the employees. The manager took decision about the working process according to own idea. This ignored the idea of the team members and the employees. Moreover, the employees were blame for their worse performance. Investment on new truck was low, which gave operational inefficiency in the firm. The old truck required renovation, which was not done in time. These practices created conflicts among the truck drivers. Use of old truck was cause of frequent accidents. Operational inefficiency, malpractices of human resource management reduced productivity of the company (Raelin, 2012). The company has been sold to a big national transport group. The new owner of the company has invested in company to improve the health of the work place and the drivers. They got a clean yard and new uniform. For better maintenance of business operation and human resource, a new computer system has been installed (Fullan, 2014). A new manager has come in place of autocratic manager. The new yard manager is comparatively democratic in nature. The new manager has brought some organisational changes in culture. He gives priority to the opinion of drivers and union representative. He uses different techniques to resolve any problem or conflicts among the employees. In case of any conflicts, he calls the union member and drivers to discuss on the issue other than blaming them. He takes decision rationally. The health and safety issue of the drivers are considered now. Therefore, new environment has given a fresh air to the drivers (Harris, 2013). They have started to realise their values in the organisation. Hence, these changes ensure more intensive involvement of the employees in the work process and service delivery. New method of resolving conflicts helps to mitigate issues more easily than earlier. This results in increasing collaboration among the co-workers. Collaborative work and good relation with manager helps to manage human resource in a better way (Burnes By, 2012). This improvement in the organisation has helped the company to get new contracts. New contracts have expanded the business in the market and increase Companys profitability. Previously, when the old manager exercised the autocratic leadership, the communication between the drivers and he manager was one way. The attitude of the manager created barriers in sharing ideas, which de-motivated the drivers and the union members (Hackman Johnson, 2013). The new manager brought new rules in terms of allowing the team members for taking part in decision making process. Empowering team member helps in proper resource allocation to perform work in better way. Investment in employees training improves the skills (Bhatti et al., 2012). Enhanced skill increases the marginal productivity of the drivers and total profit of the company. In this new situation, the manager plays a role of facilitator to provide required environment in workplace. This kind of leadership in work place helps to generate innovative ideas to improve performance of the employee and the management (Glassman, Erdem Bartholomew, 2013). The drivers are free to discuss about their needs and problems to the manager. This negotiation is helpful to resolve problem immediately. The drivers can attach their objectives with the organisational goal. The decision of improving occupational health and safety of the drivers are important decision to retain the employees in the comp any. Employee turnover reduces therefore. They may rebel in future against the same manager. In order to succeed with this new system, there needs to be presence of competencies among the drivers and the union member to move on further without any conflicts. The exiting employees need to be aware about the companys financial position (Wilensky, 2015). Otherwise, as they get freedom of expression, they may demand more facilities in terms of salaries, incentives. Every member requires being honest about their job responsibilities. Any dishonesty may corrupt the system. The new human resource management system is managed in computerised system. Lack of proper knowledge may hamper this system. Another risk is involved in the process as many people is involved in the decision making process. Every person has different perspective. If they cannot reach in a single decision, long term debate may arise, which may create dissatisfaction (Beck Cowan, 2014). Therefore, no further improvement is possible in the organisation. If in this case, if the interest of the drivers is different from the goal of the company, it is difficult for the manager to get the drivers to concentrate on the welfare of Top Trucking Company. In order to give priority to the peoples decision, sometimes welfare of the company cannot be achieved. There may be certain situation, where decision for employees welfare may be different from companys welfare. In this situation, decision making becomes difficult. In may happen that, companys expenditure is too high that it negatively affect on revenue. Hence, the immediate decision of manager would be reduction in less important expenditure. Extra expenditure on drivers may then be only way of reducing expenditure. This decision may dissatisfy the employees. In this case, wage hike in the influence of union leader damage the situation further (Spillane, 2012). Sustainability of the new system depends upon the leadership quality and interpersonal skill of the new manager. The manager needs to have strong character to resolve the issues. If the nature of the manager is weak, the groups decision may be emphasized over management decision. This creates operational inefficiency. The team members are only allowed to give their opinion. However, the final decision is to be taken by the manager. If the manager becomes more dependent on the team members, the new system may not be sustained in future, which is not good for the company. There is a possibility of conflicts between the manager and the new owner of the company. The owners ultimate goal is companys profit. If employees welfare has conflict with organisations welfare, this may dissatisfy both the party. The owner may decide to dismiss some of the employees. Moreover, there is another risk that, if the existing employees are accustomed with the system, any further organisational change may not be accepted by the employees (Voegtlin, Patzer Scherer, 2012). Evaluation of involvement of Transport Workers Union After the organisational change, the union member denied to accept the new manager. They thought that the decision making process of the new manager would be the same as that of the previous manager. This thought induced them to take decision against the manager. Occurrence of few strikes is result of their negative thought. Strike in organisation hampers the work process and reduces the productivity. The Transport Workers union are work solely for the welfare of the employees (Western, 2013). Their objective is to facilitate the truck drivers a better work environment, good wages and job security. The new system provides all these things for the benefit of the employees. Strikes influenced some of the drivers to behave aggressively. Some of the employees had left the organisation. However, after realising the new changes, the drivers accepted the system willingly. In the union such as Transport workers union, union members are chosen from the existing employees. Therefore, their und erstanding between union and manager is important for companys progress. On the other hand, the public sector union solely works for the welfare of the employees. The union member enforces the rule of minimum wage strongly. They have no direct liability for the welfare of the public sector organisation as these organisations depends on government participation. However, the existence of the transport union workers depends on the existence of the transport companies. If the company does not get profit, this will have impact on wage of the drivers. Therefore, involvement of the union members in the work process is necessary. In the private company like Top Trucking Company, there is a scope of collaborative work between the union members and the manager. They can work together for the welfare of the company. However, there is no scope for the union members in the public sector organisation to take part in the companys decision making process (Day Sammons, 2013). Therefore, their interest is limited to the welfare of the employees. The union leader accepted the decision of the new manager and his work process as the company has experienced a progress in business operation. After the organisation change, this yard has got attention from head quarter and from different other companies across the country. This improvement in the organisation justifies intensive engagement and collaborative work of the union members in the work process. The union leader now desires about the retention of the new manager in the yard. They want the new manager to stay in this ward and to work with them as they have accepted the new system. Recommendation It is recommended to the company that participatory leadership is beneficial for the company. Incentive policy for the drivers for better performance can induce them to improve their skills. Good cultural practices in the organisation improve the work environment. The manager can prepare a performance indicator for the team member. If the manager can relate the work performance with the growth of the company, the employee can recognise their values in the company. Improvement of relation with the customers is important criterion for the success of the organisation. For further improvement of the productivity, more investment is required. Progress of the company, availability of the new contracts can clear the path of inviting new investment. Inventory management is another aspect for the improvement of financial position of the company. The investor mainly takes decision seeing financial liabilities and assets of the company. There are seven commandments, these seven are broken and changed, this causes destruction and hate. One night during Animal Farm Major the head pig ordered a meeting for all animals, this meeting was his last and had important things to say, laws and commandments, the seven were clear to not be broken like the major said. These commandments were, 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon four legs and has wings is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear cloths. 4. No animal shall sleep in a bed. 5. No animal shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill another animal. 7. All animals are equal. During the story the Majors rules were broken. The Major said I have more to say, I merely repeat remember always your duty enmity towards man and all his ways. The Major is saying that you have to remember the hatred the animals have for people, and only like animals.(pg21) During a few months period the laws were changing, and they changed to 1 2 3 4. No animals shall sleep in bed with sheets. 5. No animals shall drink alcohol to excess. 6. No animal shall kill another animal without cause. 7. All animals are equal but more than others. The Major said No animal must ever tyrannize over his own kind, weak or strong, clever or simple, we are all brothers. The Major is saying don't go against each other, because their our own kind. (pg.21,22) All the pigs were stuck up and snobby, but they weren't hiding what they were doing. One day Muriel was reading off the seven commandments to herself, she said, The animals had remembered seven commandments wrong, no animals shall drink alcohol, but there were two words that they had added, that no animal shall drink alcohol to excess.(pg. 103) The moral of the story is, to always follow the rules. Rbs staff grievance procedure INTRODUCTION Grievance is a complaint held by a member of staff against the RBS as an employer, including a grievance against another member of staff acting on behalf of the RBS. The grievance procedure established by RBS does not apply to collective disputes neither it entertains disputes between members of staff in their private capacities. These procedures mean a ground for complaint against an action taken by another member of staff of the employer acting under the authority of management. RBS Grievance procedures consist of several stages. Throughout all stages of the procedure, every attempt is made to settle the matter by conciliation and negotiations. STAGE 1 INFORMAL DISCUSSION 1. A member of staff when thinking of raising a grievance should try to resolve the matter by a direct approach to the person under the authority usually a Line Manager. www.worthingtonslaw.co.ukf STAGE 2 ONE ON ONE WITH LINE MANAGER 2. If the matter after informal discussion remains unresolved, the aggrieved he or she should request a personal hearing with their line manager. STAGE 3 IN WRITING 3. Then the request shall be made in writing or should be lodged on a Internal Operational Complaint system and shall specify: the grounds for the grievance; Such other background information as may appear relevant and useful. 4. The line manager shall: If appropriate seek the advice of the Human Resources Department or should consult his supervisor or Manager. Should meet the aggrieved staff within five working days. Aggrieved staff and the line manager shall have a copy of the written request or the reference number for the lodged complain. (Marson: Business Law) 5. Another member of the staff as a witness if required can accompany the aggrieved staff at the hearing with line manager. 6. Line manager should then write the report of the meeting or minutes of the meeting or hearing and send it to HR or in case if HR department is not involved or consulted for advice should keep it as a record. Please note: In the case of a grievance against a line manager, this initial hearing shall be with the appropriate Head of Department. STAGE 3 INFORMING AND MEETING THE HEAD OF DEPARTMENT 7. If the matter still remains unresolved and is not in hands of line manager, the aggrieved staff then requests a meeting with the Head of Department. The copy of request shall be sent to Head of Department or the lodged complaint print as a request for meeting. 8. The Head of Department then arranges the meeting within ten working days of receiving the request. 9. He shall also then obtain a copy of the written report of the initial meeting or hearing with line manager and if any relevant papers or documentary proofs from the line manager. 10. One of the Human Resources department members should be present at the meeting with Head of Department to keep a written record of the hearing. 11. Even, while meeting the Head of the Department, another member of the staff as a witness (if needs) may accompany the aggrieved staff on his hearing with Department Head. 12. After the hearing, the Head of Department shall: write to the member of staff to record the outcome of the hearing; copy the letter to the line manager, Head of Human Resources and to the Vice Chancellor; Please Note: In the case of a grievance against the Head of Department the hearing shall be with a Pro Vice Chancellor. STAGE 4 APPEAL TO THE VICE CHANCELLOR 13. If the aggrieved staff wishes to raise the grievance against the decision of the Head of Department she or he may appeal to the Vice Chancellor. But, the appeal should be made within five working days of receiving the letter from the Head of Department. 14. A full written statement of the grievance should be submit to the Vice chancellor; which shall be: a comprehensive background and the facts of the grievance and the issue raised and should attach the relevant supporting documents and in case of the member of the staff witnessed, his or her statement and complete detail. 15. The Vice Chancellor then will copy the written statement and any supporting documents and send it to the member of staff against whom the grievance has been raised. 16. The member of staff will be given ten working days within which to submit written answer or justification against the issue rose, which will then be submitted to the aggrieved member of staff. 17. If the justification is not satisfactory enough or the aggrieved staff does not agree with then a meeting is held with ten days with Vice chancellor holds a hearing with both the member of staff, aggrieved and the one against whom the grievance is made. 18. The Vice Chancellor may delegate this stage of the procedure to the appropriate Pro Vice Chancellor. The conduct of the hearing shall be: Both the aggrieved member of staff and the member of staff against whom the grievance is made. if any facts are in dispute, either or both parties may nominate witnesses and they can accompany them in the hearing but they should be the member of the staff only. 19. The decision of the Vice Chancellor will be the final say in the case and will be notified to the member of staff within five working days of the hearing. Please note: If the grievance is against the Vice Chancellor personally the aggrieved member of staff may submit a written statement of grievance to the Chairman of the Board of Governors through the Secretary to the Board. The Chairman if decides after examining the statement can carry out investigation and if not then declines the request. Kazakhstan shares the Caspian Sea with other countries on its western border. As its neighbors in the region, Kazakhstan is a landlocked country and the second largest republic of the Commonwealth of Independent States after the Russian Federation. Kazakhstan doesn`t have MacDonald’s in the market. However it is really good opportunity to bring the fast food to a new market and get to know the culture. The model which authors constructed in this study integrates cross-culture and 4P marketing strategy. It can be divided into two parts. Firstly, the authors will analyze some components of culture which lead to the phenomenon of cross culture, such as the different values, languages and customer behaviors. During this process, Hofstede‟s culture dimensions will be employed as the approach to understand cross-culture better. Secondly, based on the analysis of marketing standardization and adaptation, the marketing mix 4ps as main international marketing strategies will be used to achieve our research purpose. When marketers discuss international marketing, one of the important issues often considered is the cultural differences. In relation to international marketing, culture can be defined as â€Å"the sum total of learned beliefs, values, and customs that serve to direct consumer behavior in a particular country‟s market† (Doole and Lowe, 2008, p.73). Such components as beliefs, values and customs are often ingrained in a society and have obvious differences among different countries. Cultural differences manifest themselves in several ways. Hofstede (2001) distinguishes symbols, heroes, rituals and values. Among theseï ¼Å'the underlying values are invisible. Although values are always invisible and may be hard to measure, they often play an important role when the marketers try to make decisions, which help to enter a foreign market. Also, according to Mooij (2004), the values that characterize a society cannot be observed directly. They can be inferred from various cultural products (fairy tales, children‟s books, or advertising) or by asking members of society to score personal values by stating their preferences among alternatives, and then calculating the central tendency of the answers. When it comes to marketing, the value concept is often used in an ethnocentric way. Besides, values are learned unconsciously, people are only partly aware of them, and measuring values is not an easy job (Lowe et al, 1998). Often, the problems they face are a result of their mistaken assumption that foreign markets will be similar to the home market, and so they can do the business in a similar way. Doole and Lowe (2007) point out that the values of a culture satisfy a need within that society for order, direction and guidance. Culture sets the standards shared by significant sections of that society which, in turn, set the rules for operating in that market. Mooij (2003) considered that the managers of transnational corporations should provide appropriate products according to the local consumer values and buying behaviors of a certain market. In international markets, MacDonald’s is well placed to expand and take advantage of long-term economic growth. MacDonald’s also has a strong real estate portfolio. The company’s outlets are located in areas that are highly known for visibility, traffic volume and ease of access. MacDonald’s also has exceptional brand recognition. This strong brand recognition creates significant opportunities for the company. MacDonald’s is able to generate more sales because of its brand recognition. 3.3 Weakness The food industry is really saturated. As a result of this, MacDonald’s has to deal with the prospect of looming market saturation, which could make it difficult to add new outlets. The market is forecast to grow by around 2% per year. Lack of product innovation is another weakness of McDonalds. The last breakthrough for McDonald’s was the Chicken McNugget in 1983, but again the company’s new strategy seems to have successfully dealt with the problem through the popularity of its new salads and other new products. 3.4 Opportunity MacDonald’s sold its Donatos Pizzeria back to its founder in 2003 and discontinued Boston market operations outside of the US. The company’s aggressive international expansion has left it extremely vulnerable to other countries economic slowdown. Foreign currency fluctuation is also another problem global companies like McDonalds. The Fast food industry is becoming an increasingly competitive sector. MacDonald’s keeps up with competitors through expensive promotional campaigns which leads to limited margins to gain market share. They are as follows: product, price, place, and promotion. Having identified its key audiences, a company has to ensure a marketing mix is created those appeals specifically to those people. Thus, women’s emancipation has gained the same rights and opportunities as men to get the equal chances in life.The 21th century emphasis on women’s emancipation has caused an increase in women’s education, independency and workforce integration. Women’s liberation has brought them to obtain equality in education. The equal opportunity in education means that women have the same prospects as men to extend education up to high degree. M ark J. Perry (2010), professor of economics and finance in the Flint Campus of the University of Michigan, writes that women earned more doctoral degrees than men, 50. 4 % to 49. 9 % respectively.In other words, he explains that the number of women who reached doctoral degrees is fairly higher than men; however, it shows that women have a future prospect of high degrees education. This means that, the chance for women is not only having education but also obtaining high level education is widely open. Thus, women’s equality has broadened their opportunities to get better education. To be free from old social limitations and customs also allows women to attain independency. Women’s independency indicates that they have their own rights to choose what the best for their lives.Independency can be implemented by permitting women to take part in every chance in society. An example of independent woman in Indonesia was Raden Ajeng Kartini, the Javanese aristocrat, who was bo rn in 1879, in a small town on the northern coast of Central Java (one of the Indonesian provinces). She was the pioneer of women’s equality in Indonesia. She fought for women’s independency and symbolized the struggle against Dutch colonial arrogance. She protested against the conventional thoughts, which women were more likely staying at home and raising children.Later on, she provided schooling for women in Java because she wanted all the women could require education, and become independent, even though women were not allowed to be self-determining. As a result, her movement has enlightened womanhood in Indonesia to be independent. Her ideas and her actions have been a source of inspiration for the emancipation movement in Indonesia. Wide opportunity of education for women has made broad opportunity to implement the knowledge in the workplace. Women also have rights to be equal and actively involved in the workplace.For instance, in the recent days, they are truste d to have some important positions, such as presidents, parliament members, lawyers, or other jobs which are commonly dominated by men. Moreover, many organizations are seeking top-management positions, such as senior executive and decision-making roles to be taken by brilliant women. Hence, what are the benefits having more women in top-management positions? Initially, integration between work and family lead them to have good management. Secondly, the empathetic and ability-to-listen characters direct them in managing teams, mentoring and developing trust among the members.Thus, these abilities have led women to incorporate their knowledge in the place they work.
